Jonathan Moy

jmoy_photo-200x300 As a specialist career coach and careers advisor I strive to provide the highest standard of excellence and professionalism. This is backed by years of experience in clinical practice and non-clinical work in a variety of fields including medical doctor, psychiatrist, government official, IT professional and careers consultant.

I initially started my career as a medical doctor in hospitals and clinics around NZ and Australia. I then spent a further 4 years working in psychiatry treating mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety and psychosis with standard medical treatments as well as psychotherapy modalities including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic psychotherapy and transactional analysis.

At one stage, I spent a year employed as a government medical advisor at the Ministry of Health involved in the monitoring and regulation of the use of prescription medicines. At another time, I was involved with information systems administration at Victoria University.

I have published research in social psychology, conducted research in schizophrenia and in prevention of sudden infant death syndrome. I have also written and edited medical-related articles and continue to write on topics of careers, lifestyle and health.

At mid-life, I took a shift in career-direction to take some time out for professional studies in career development and moved my focus from working with ill people to assisting well people reach their full potential in career and life. Currently, I continue an interest in medicine and psychiatry but for purely lifestyle balance I now dedicate my time as a career counsellor and to family, writing and participating in regular charitable work.

Currently, I run Careerology, a career counselling clinic, in central Auckland. My clients range from school-leavers through to executives and professionals.

I am a Professional Member of the Career Development Association of New Zealand (CDANZ), registered as a medical practitioner of good standing with the New Zealand Medical Council (NZMC) and a MBTI™ Certified Practitioner.

I was born and raised in New Zealand. I am 45 yrs old, married to another doctor and have 2 children. For more information see my careers advice website.

Olga Bernstein

I am a Career Counsellor and group facilitator, with a special interest in people seeking career direction.  I am passionate about people making use of their natural talents and doing work which is meaningful to them. I understand and respect the fact that each person has their own dreams and aspirations and I work with these to assist people to find their own path. Consequently, my work with each client with is tailored to meet their needs, be that clarifying career direction, crafting an effective CV, assisting with job search strategy or coaching to increase confidence with interviews.

My own career journey started in Human Resources (HR). This experience has given me an understanding of job search from both ‘sides of the fence’ and I bring this knowledge and understanding to the work I do with my clients.

I then decided to combine my HR experience and studies in psychology and studied Career Counselling at AUT. Combining my experience as a migrant and job seeker with my knowledge from my studies, I created and facilitated groups for migrants, to provide support and share information on settlement and job search.

My approach is based on practical experience, as well as solid understanding of theory and practice.  I bring my personal experience of career change and migration, as well as the experiences and wisdom of the many people I have worked with and my continual formal learning as a Career  Counsellor.

My special areas of interest include:

Group facilitation:

For me, groups have a special energy. They provide support, allow for sharing of ideas and also allow people to see that their problems are shared by others. I have worked with a wide range of groups, from migrants and refugees to school pupils and university students.

Individual career counselling:

I work with a wide range of individuals, from those returning to the workforce, to those wanting to find more satisfying work, to very long-term unemployed, to ACC clients.
